Aston Villa have secured their biggest ever transfer signing after agreeing a club-record £50 million deal with Everton for midfielder Amadou Onana, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The 22-year-old Belgian, who can also play in defense, will undergo a medical before finalizing a five-year contract with the Villans. The deal reportedly includes a sell-on clause for Everton.
Onana, born in Dakar, Senegal, but raised in Brussels, is a product of the Hoffenheim academy in Germany. After spells at Hamburg and Lille, he arrived in the Premier League with Everton in 2022 for £33 million. He has made 63 appearances in the league for the Toffees.
On the international stage, Onana has already established himself as a key player for Belgium, making his debut in 2022 and earning 17 caps. He was part of the Red Devils’ squads at the 2022 World Cup and the recent Euro 2024.
Onana becomes Villa’s sixth signing of the summer transfer window. He joins Netherlands defender Ian Maatsen, wingers Samuel Iling-Junior and Lewis Dobbin, striker Cameron Archer, and midfielder Ross Barkley in bolstering manager Unai Emery’s squad.
