In the recent game of Nepal vs Oman, Nepali star bowler Sandeep Lamichhane took his 100th ODI wicket making this the fastest 100 ODI wickets by any player.
Sandeep Lamichhane took 100 ODI wickets in just 42 matches breaking the record of Afghanistan’s Cricketer Rashid Khan of 100 wickets in 44 matches.
ICC Ignores Sandeep Lamichhane’s Fastest 100 ODI Wickets Record?
International Cricket Council-ICC is always active in posting different cricket news. They are up to date with their news and post. ICC always posts about the game happening all around the world. But why ICC haven’t posted about the Fastest 100 ODI wickets record made by Sandeep Lamichhane till now?
Different news channels, cricketers, and Sandeep himself have posted about this record on social media. News channels, pages, and other cricketers have praised and congratulated Sandeep on the world record but the biggest council of Cricket, ICC which is always up to date with all the cricket news didn’t recognize this record. The question is why?
Why ICC Didn’t Post about Sandeep’s Record
The game of ACC Men’s Premier Cup 2023, which is conducted by the Asian Cricket Council not ICC was mainly played in a non-ODI format. But, the game of Oman and Nepal have to be ODI as both teams are ODI Nation and were playing in ODI status ground i.e TU Cricket Ground. The day before the game of Nepal vs Oman, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) sent a written letter to ICC asking for the ODI status for this match. In reply, ICC approve the proposal and gave the ODI recognition for this match at the midnight just before the game. So, there is no doubt that the game was ODI.
We guess that as the game was of ACC and not of ICC there is some confusion for ICC’s news posting team that if the record of Sandeep Lamichhane is valid or not. However, ICC has posted other news from ACC Premier Cup 2023. There may be other reasons for ICC not posting about this record but it is sad to see that ICC not recognizing the unbelievable records of Sandeep.
We hope ICC will post a full article on this record soon. We will further try to reach out to ICC from different social media handles. We also hope and request you guys, share this news on Twitter and Facebook mentioning ICC.
