Inter Milan reaches the UEFA Champions League Quarterfinals

Inter Milan reaches the Quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League after 12 years.

After a long wait of 12 years, Italian team Inter Milan has finally made it to the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals. By defeating FC Porto 1-0 on aggregate in the pre-quarterfinals, they guaranteed their spot. Inter and FC Porto were able to draw without scoring in the second leg. Inter triumphed 1-0 at San Siro in the opening leg of the competition.

Inter Milan’s Victory over FC Porto

In the last seconds of the game on Tuesday, FC Porto of Portugal missed the chance to tie the score. Andre Onana, the Inter goalkeeper, also played a significant part in keeping FC Porto from scoring when Mehdi Taremi’s strike struck the crossbar and the post. Moreover, Porto’s chances of a comeback were hampered by Pepe, a Brazilian winger who was sent off during the contest.

Performance of Both Teams

The first half of the game was dominated by the home club Porto, who produced more scoring opportunities. Andre Onana, the goalkeeper for Inter Milan, produced a number of crucial stops to prevent Porto from scoring. Conversely, Inter Milan also had some opportunities, but Federico DiMarco, Denzel Dumfries, Edin Dzeko, and Romelu Lukaku were unable to take advantage of them.

Other Teams Competing for Quarterfinals

It is yet unknown which two teams will make it through to the quarterfinals. Real Madrid and Liverpool, as well as Napoli and Eintracht Frankfurt, are competing for a position in the quarterfinals with two squads each. In the first leg, Real Madrid leads Liverpool 5-2, while Napoli leads Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0.

Other Teams Already in the Quarterfinals

Inter Milan is now the sixth team to qualify for the quarterfinals.  Earlier, Benfica, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, and Manchester City have also advanced. The leading team in the Italian Serie A, Napoli, has a chance to join the other six teams.


The quarterfinal draw will take place on Friday at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, where the teams will know their opponents in the next round.
