Nepal Women’s Cricket Team Gears Up for Asia Cup Challenge

Nepal’s women’s cricket team is set to compete in the ACC Women’s Asia Cup, which kicks off on Friday, July 19th, in Sri Lanka. Having arrived in the island nation three weeks ago, the team has undergone rigorous training and played three practice matches as part of their preparation.

Despite facing two defeats and a single victory in their warm-up games, the Nepali Cricket Association (CAN) remains optimistic about the team’s performance. Nepal secured its place in the Asia Cup after a successful campaign in the ACC Women’s Premier Cup held in Malaysia last February.

The tournament will feature eight teams divided into two groups. Nepal has been placed in Group A alongside cricketing giants India and Pakistan, as well as the UAE. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.

Indu Burma will lead the Nepali squad, which boasts a mix of experienced players like Ruveena Chhetri and promising young talents. The team’s performance in the practice matches against Sri Lanka Development provided valuable insights into their strengths and areas for improvement.

Nepal’s campaign begins with a match against the UAE on July 19th, followed by encounters with Pakistan and India. This will be Nepal’s third appearance in the Asia Cup, with previous participations in 2012 and 2016.
