After winning the toss, Kolkata Knight Riders chose to bowl first, and Punjab Kings put up an impressive total of 191 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their 20 overs. 1st Innings: Punjab Kings put up an impressive total of 191 runs

In the second match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Punjab Kings were asked to bat first after losing the toss against Kolkata Knight Riders in Mohali. Punjab’s top-order batsman Bhanuka Rajapaksa played an outstanding knock to help his team set a challenging target of 192 runs for Kolkata Knight Riders to chase.

Rajapaksa was the top scorer for Punjab Kings, scoring a well-crafted half-century of 50 runs off just 32 balls, including 5 fours and 2 sixes. He shared an impressive 86-run partnership for the second wicket with skipper Shikhar Dhawan, who scored 40 runs off 29 balls, including 6 fours.

Apart from Rajapaksa and Dhawan, Prabhasimran Singh contributed 23 runs off 12 balls, while Jatish Sharma scored 21 runs off 11 balls, and Sam Karan added 26 runs off 17 balls.

Kolkata Knight Riders bowlers struggled to contain the Punjab Kings batsmen, with Tim Southee taking two wickets for 54 runs in his 4 overs. Umesh Yadav, Sunil Narayan, and Barun Chakraborty took one wicket each to restrict Punjab Kings to 191 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

In the end, Shah Rukh Khan remained unbeaten on 11 runs off 7 balls, as Punjab Kings finished their innings with a challenging total on the board.

2nd Innings: Kolkata Knight Riders Struggle in Chase, Lose 3 Early Wickets

Chasing a target of 192 runs, Kolkata Knight Riders got off to a terrible start, losing opener Mandip Singh for just 2 runs. Anukul Roy came in next but was dismissed after making just 4 runs in 5 balls. Venkatesh Iyer then came in and provided some hope for Kolkata Knight Riders, scoring 34 runs off 28 balls. However, opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz was also dismissed after scoring 22 runs off 16 balls, followed by captain Nitish Rana, who made 24 runs off 17 balls.

Rinku Singh was out for just 4 runs, and Andre Russell played a quickfire knock of 35 runs off 19 balls before getting dismissed. Shardul Thakur came in after Russell’s dismissal, but Venkatesh Iyer was also out after scoring 34 runs. Sunil Narine came in to bat after Iyer’s dismissal, but the match was stopped due to rain after the 16th over. At the time, Kolkata Knight Riders had scored 146 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.
