Sandeep Lamichhane of Nepal is set to make cricket history. The leg-spinner needs just 1 more scalp to reach 100 wickets in ODI matches more quickly than any other bowler. Rashid Khan took 44 matches to reach 100 wickets whereas Sandeep has 99 wickets in just 41 matches. Nepal will play the next ODI match against Oman in ACC Premier Cup 2023. If Sandeep took 1 wicket in that match he will surpass Rashid Khan’s record.
Sandeep’s performance in ODIs has been remarkable since he made his debut in August 2018 against the Netherlands. He has taken 99 wickets in just 41 matches. It is a very impressive record for any bowler. Sandeep has also taken three five-wicket hauls in his career so far, including his best bowling performance of 6/11 in the second ODI against Papua New Guinea on September 10, 2021, which is Nepal’s best bowling performance in ODIs.
Sandeep’s rise to become the best-performing bowler from Nepal in ODIs has been phenomenal. He has taken 50 wickets in 22 matches and became the 2nd fastest player to take 50 ODI Wickets. Only Ajantha Mendis of Sri Lanka has taken fewer matches to reach this milestone, achieving it in 19 matches.
After Sandeep, Sompal Kami has taken the most wickets for Nepal in ODIs, with 60 wickets in 43 matches. Karan KC is next on the list, with 56 wickets in 38 matches. However, In ODIs, no other Nepali bowler has taken more than 50 wickets. Dipendra Singh Airee, fourth on the list of most wicket-takers, has taken 28 wickets in 42 matches.
